How to use your health insurance and other related services

Health insurance includes*:

  • Your personal medical advisor, who will assist you before, during and after treatment
  • Costs covered relating to treatment, travel and accommodation prescribed by Vertikal Helse
  • Unlimited physical treatments without referral, when medical necessary
  • Up to 10 hours of psycology treatment after referral from your GP
  • Psychological first aid for psychological reactions due to unforeseen events such as violence, robbery, traffic accidents or death
  • Treatment of addiction
  • Rehabilitation following surgery if prescribed by the treating specialist
  • Offer of Second Opinion of diagnosis already given by a specialist
  • Helseformidling – a service providing advice and assistance with or without insurance cover
  • Medical advice – 24 hour health helpline; for simple medical questions and advice
  • Online doctor – GP service online, the appointment is conducted as a video call
  • Overvinne – Digital self-help tools for mental health

How to use the health insurance and related services

1. Referral

  • If you need an examination or treatment by a medical specialist, e.g. orthopedic, dermatologist, you need a referral from a doctor. This also applies if you need an appoinment with a psychologist or an x-ray investigation.
  • If you need treatment by a physical therapist, we must approve the treatment in advance. It is stated in the insurance certificate whether you need a referral from a medical specialist or if the health insurance includes an agreed number of treatments without referral.

2. Submit your health insurance claim with BankID

Before treatment you need to submit your health insurance claim.

  • You can upload referral and other attachments during the registration.
  • Please note that you must have a BankID to register a claim.
  • You may also need your agreement number (you can find this in your insurance agreement).

NB! If you don't have a Norwegian national identity number, please follow the step below.

2. Submit your health insurance claim without BankID

If you don't have a Norwegian national identity number, you have to submit your health insurance claim manually.

A medical advisor at Vertikal Helse will contact you when we have received your health insurance claim to ensure quick, safe and appropriate treatment.

When can I call?

We will help you and advice you concerning questions about e.g. children with fever,rashes, chest pain and vaccination if travelling abroad. Experienced nurses will around the clock answer questions related to your health.

None of your health/medical information will be shared with Vertikal Helse.

Digital self-help tools for mental health

The Overvinne-app offers video calls with a psychologist and digital tools for self-help.

You can use the digital tools without a referral, but if you need to talk to a psychologist, physically or in a video call, you must first get a referral from a doctor and submit your claim to Vertikal Helse.


What can the Overvinne-app help you with?


  • The Overvinne-app is developed by psychologists, and gives you help for self-help through videos, exercises, audio files, mood reports and articles. You can use the app alone or with a psychologist, anytime and anywhere.
  • To use the Overvinne-app, go to overvinne.no and register as a new member. You can use the services in the app for free and as much as you want - without a referral from a doctor. The program corresponds to a treatment course of 15 hours of psychology treatment.

Online doctor

From February 1, 2023, you can start using digital medical services from Hjemmelegene.

Here you can quickly and easily contact experienced GPs when you need it, no matter where you are.
Online doctor’s appointments are included in your health insurance from If and Vertikal Helse, and can be used at no extra cost.

Online doctor for adults and children

Hjemmelegene is a Norwegian medical service, which since its inception has performed more than 100,000 consultations at home, digitally and at companies.

The digital doctor’s appointment can be done on a PC, mobile or tablet, and you can talk to a doctor within 20 minutes of booking an appointment.

With the help of video, the doctor can assess thesymptoms, so that you get sound advice andrecommendations tailored to you.

The medical service from Hjemmelegene can be used by you who are insured and your children under the age of 18.

The type of help you can receive:

  • Treatment and follow-up of medical issues, which do not require physical examinations
  • Renewal of prescriptions for most regular medications
  • Referral to a medical specialist or further examinations if necessary

How to get started:

  • Go to the Hjemmelegene’s website: hjemmelegene.no/forsikring
  • Log in with your BankID and the agreement number your health insurance
  • Briefly describe what you need help with

After booking, you will receive a message with a link to the video room where you will meet the doctor.

Opening hours

Hjemmelegene’s digital medical service is open daily at 8:00 am - 10:00 pm throughout the year.

If you need medical advice and guidance outside of these opening hours, you can contact our medical advisory service at 21 49 24 01. Here you will meet experienced nurses who can answer your questions about health and illness.

From February 1, you can no longer use Kry through your health insurance.
